Inside Fonzie's Head

Ruminations from some guy named Fonzie. The name is Alfonse... Al-Fonse became "Al Fonz" in elementary school, then just Fonzie in High School, and it's still with me ten years after college. Luckily, I work in the motorcycle industry! Enjoy the occasionally exciting life of me - expect posts VERY random, about VERY random thoughts - I am an artist remember. Thank You America

In exchange for putting down the camera and tapping a few million keystrokes, I'm (finally) given the opportunity to report on a motorcycle from another country.

To do so, I needed to update my antique passport - asap. After sweating the logistics, paying my 160$ fee and waiting only 2 more days, I walked away with a brand new passport.

Look out world! Germany, here comes the Fonz!

In the Media: 2009 Can-Am Spyder Preview

Smack dab in between two alphabet-class weather events lain a narrow window of opportunity to ride the latest and greatest creations from the Canadian minds at Bombardier Recreation Products. Guess who closed the door on bluebird Texan skies this week? Ike did it, or maybe you can blame Gustav for whittling our day’s excursion to a short-order dish. We weren’t even off the hotel’s property before every stitch of clothing I wore was drenched in the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

In the Media: 2009 Buell 1125CR Sneak Peek

Since August we’ve all known that the Buell 1125R had been turned on its side – front wheel pointed towards the sky side – into a tighter and tougher looking café racer called the 1125CR. If you’re as big a motorhead as your wife, girlfriend or bank balance says you are, you’d have been as excited as a little girl when you walked around the pits at Mid-Ohio this week.

Buell Inside Pass attendees got more than just a glimpse of the 2009 models, they were able to hop on and play moto-journo for a day. Your brand loyalty and enthusiasm created great privilege that day. Privileges usually reserved for the press had to take the back seat while you folks got to rip up the asphalt.

2008 Can-Am Spyder Review: I'm gunna toot my own horn here and continue the trend whenever I post a new story on MO - self synergy if you like. Skip any posts with the same URL-linked title if you're not a motorcyclist. :) I'll be adding all my authored stuff under this title. If I shot something, it'll have a different title. ;) Thanks for the patience (T - I know you're getting way too many emails from my blog tonight!) everyone!

Currently the 4th most popular story on MO... hmmmm. Is the market really looking for cheap motorcycles that have good MPG or am I that cool? :)

When Two Worlds Collide aka Happy Acquisitioning

One year ago today, Canadian and American publishing teams hopped aboard the same bike for a two-up ride through time.
Over bumpy passes and through winding dark roads we've traveled together. Despite the occasional crossing of the yellow or puckering blind corner, we've made it this far, together with you - our loyal readers! Thanks for cramming into the saddle bags btw, we can't ALL be the pilots on this ride. We do hope you're enjoying the ride anyway.

With mergers comes upgrades and downsizing of course - a whole new website finally populates visiting browser windows and with the loss of our loyal super fan Mr. K comes growth in many new ways. More reports from world introductions, lesser-confusing navigation and more informative videos to name just a few of the upgrades. We hope you're enjoying the changes.

Further acquisitions to the Motorcycle.com brand include the now EIC/NFL Kevin Duke, a battered yet intelligent moto-journo. Once we teach him how to read all the emails we send him, we'll get to publishing more stories per week. Excluding uncontrollable server pukes.

Motorcycle.com needed a facelift and Rob Laidlaw and his band of loyal Canadians put out. And put up with the steep learning curve of our content management system. Whatever we do, "you really cannot replace passion," claims Mr. Laidlaw, and so VerticalScope has fought long and hard to give us the legs to stand tall and be passionate about. They're hott legs too by the way - yes, with two T's.

So a year later the MO family has grown by more than just a pair of legs and a new owner, we hope you still find us attractive after all the growing pains.
And of course there's more to come, but I'll leave the over-promising to the professionals.

Keep the rubber side down and enjoy the ride. We ain't going nowhere without you!

You've come a long way baby!

A long way and billion miles traveled. November 1st marks the 13th birthday for Motorcycle.com – boo scary! It’s the anniversary date of the domain registration in 1994, but MO was just a flippy tadpole in the Alt.motorcycle geek world for a while before the web web web fad started up. We’re happy to still be kicking after all these years. Congrats to everyone involved throughout the years!

ON STANDS NOW!

I've been published - my photographs that is - have hit the streets in BOTH the Barnetts Motorcycle Showcase, the Love Ride pictures, and in greater scale and detail in the newest release m/c 'zine coming from the people behind Robb Report - aptly named "Motorcycling". Look for it now! Buy a copy, boost sales, get me more work, thank you thank you thank you!
Pages 48 and 112 are my features.... I'm almost stoked... the pictures could be in better layout, but excited for the prospect. Now I need a woman to complete the life. :)

So, here's a picture of the MO staff at a Willow track day, testing those little tiny machines we're sitting on, pocketbikes with sidecars! How's that for the strangest "first time" on a track known to racers? 50cc machines - Polini motori motors topping nearly 35mph, solo. When running a monkey on board the speed probably doesn't break 20mph. Lastly the strangest part of the whole day on the track is this: the company distributing these babie sto the states, has invited me and my monkey to race their personal rig in the first organized race to be help here in the good old USA! I think I'm gunna do it just cause someday, the award will be an incredible conversation piece! I'll keep you posted.
